Beth Hutchison Watson, Director of Internship Programs

Beth began working for the Honors College in July 2009 when she moved from the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition to coordinating the Honors College's three internship initiatives, Beth also advises students majoring in political science and international studies.

She first joined the University of South Carolina staff in 2000 managing public policy research projects.  She soon began managing two internship programs: the Washington Semester Program and the South Carolina Semester Program.  Upon arrival at the Honors College, Beth began developing a new Honors College Internship Program for students to gain relevant experience and skills to complement their academic preparation in businesses, private industry and community organizations.

In the community, Beth is an elected member of the Board of Trustees for Lexington-Richland School District Five and serves as the vice-chair of the Board. She has served as a presenter at the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA)  Legislative Conference discussing school board and legislative relationship building, as a trainer/facilitator for SCSBA's School Board Training initiative and as a leader in the strategic planning process for SCSBA's committee on community relations. She is a graduate of Leadership Columbia and Leadership South Carolina.

Beth graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations.  In 2007, she completed her masters degree in public administration at USC.  University of South Carolina pride runs deep in her family, with a sister, father and other family members who graduated from USC. Beth's daughter graduated with Honors from the South Carolina Honors College in May 2010.  Her son is a student at The Citadel.  Beth is married to Will Watson, a Wofford alumni.
