Dr. Ed Munn Sanchez joined the Honors College from the philosophy department in 2006. Ed teaches courses for the College, coordinates our recruitment efforts, and advises Engineering, Physics, and Spanish majors.
Ed's primary academic area is social and political philosophy. He is particularly interested in how democracy works in technologically sophisticated societies and the role that universities as institutions play in maintaining democracy in these societies. His honors courses include: Social and Political Philosophy, Civility in the Public Sphere, Authenticity: How to Live a Good Life and Be True to Yourself, and The Idea of an Honors College. Before he came to the College Ed served as the Ethics Coordinator for the College of Engineering and Computing as well as teaching in the philosophy department.
Ed was born in Madrid, Spain and much of his family still live there. He attributes his love of food, cooking, and Real Madrid to this heritage. His wife, Susan Carstensen is in the biology department and they have two children. When he is not at the College he can usually be found coaching or playing soccer (futbol to him), cooking, kayaking or canoeing, and traveling. He is also very fond of the Spanish tradition of Tertulia and he will explain it to any student that asks.
