Students admitted to the Honors College are excellent students with very strong academic records. We expect all Honors students to perform at a high academic level as undergraduates.  Honors students are expected to adhere to the Carolinian Creed.

Student Interests

Honors College Students:

  • are involved in the campus community.  Honors Students have been on the founding committees of several highly active student organizations including the Roosevelt Institute, the Waverly Afterschool Program, the Carolina Debate Union, a support group for a local clinic called Amigos del Buen Samaritan, and others.

  • enjoy their time in the College: 93% of graduating seniors would recommend the Honors College to other high-achieving students.

  • are admitted to Medical Schools: 85-90% of Honors Graduates who apply to medical school are accepted.

  • are financial aid award winners: 100% of entering Honors College freshman in the 20011-12 academic year received financial aid awards.

  • take advantage of study abroad opportunities. 50% of students graduating with honors in 2010 and 2011 studied abroad during their undergraduate career.

  • are leaders in their campus organizations. Although the College is composed of only 7% of the student body, 20% of registered student organizations on campus have Honors College students as their presidents.

  • are involved in Student Media.  Honors College students have DJ-ed at WUSC, have been voted "South Carolina's Best Collegiate Cartoonist" for comic strips in the Daily Gamecock, have created their own literary magazine, and have been the editor-in-chief of both the Daily Gamecock and Garnet and Black Magazine.
