The Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs (OFSP) is a close partner to the Honors College with two missions: assisting students in preparing and applying for national fellowships and serving as the home base for our Carolina, Stamps Carolina, McNair, Hamilton, and Horseshoe Scholars.

National Fellowship Advisement

OFSP advises students pursuing nationally competitive awards, primarily undergraduates, graduate students, and recent alumni with strong academic records and a desire to further contribute to their disciplines and to the greater good of society. OFSP provides essay reviews, reflection conversations, and interview practice for specific national competitions, as well as pairing students with faculty mentors. These scholarships and fellowships include the Fulbright, Goldwater, Marshall, Madison, National Science Foundation, Rhodes, Truman, and Udall, among others.

Carolina students and recent alumni have won 619 national awards totaling more than $17.7 million for academic study. An average of 67% of those awards has been won by SCHC students. Although our ultimate goal is to see Honors College students earn these prestigious scholarships and fellowships, the preparation process in and of itself enhances and focuses students’ academic, personal, and career goals.

Scholar Programs

OFSP also houses the Carolina, Stamps Carolina, McNair, Hamilton, and Horseshoe Scholars community at Carolina. Scholar Programs provides holistic advisement and an array of programs throughout Scholars’ time at Carolina that distinguish them in their pursuit of national fellowships, internship placements, acceptance to graduate schools, and employment. These scholarships are resources allowing students to engage in high-impact opportunities and build community at Carolina, locally, and globally, not simply rewards for academic achievement.

Our Scholars coordinate the Last Lecture Series, for which faculty compose a hypothetical talk on any topic of their choosing. Read more about the Last Lecture Series here.

Located on the Horshoe in DeSaussure 328, the friendly OFSP staff are ready to help academically talented students meet their goals. Make an appointment today to begin engaging in the process.
