Anticipated Expenses in Washington, DC
It is hard to know what exact expenses to anticipate, since it differs from student to student. In general, the following expenses associated with the semester are:
- Tuition – All students will enroll at USC- Columbia and pay the USC semester tuition rate. The USC Board of Trustees establishes the tuition for the upcoming year in July of each year (http://www.sc.edu/bursar/fees.shtml).
- Housing Expenses – Washington Intern Semester Housing (WISH) management company owns the house at 225 Constitution Ave. NE, where the students live. At orientation, we will collect a $300 non-refundable processing fee payable to WISH. The cost of housing varies each year. Students should budget between $4,700 - $5,000 plus a refundable $200 security deposit. This includes all utilities, internet access, furnishings, basic kitchen supplies, and monthly cleaning. Students will be billed by WISH a month before the semester begins. WISH understands that many students use scholarship money to help pay for housing, which often is not available to the student until after the semester begins.
