Eligibility: The Andrea G. and Jerre D. Sumter Scholarship is awarded to a worthy incoming Honors College student whose major is in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Renewal: The scholarship is automatically renewed annually for up to three years if the student has a 3.5 GPA or higher, is in good standing with the Honors College, and remains in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Application: No application is necessary beyond the initial Honors College application.
Established by Mark E. Brown, a graduate of the South Carolina Honors College class of 1983, in honor of his father.
Status: This scholarship has been awarded, and will be available again for Fall of 2015
Eligibility: The David D. Brown Scholarship is awarded to a worthy incoming student whose major is in the Moore School of Business with priority going to those in financial need.
Renewal: The scholarship is automatically renewed annually for up to three years if the student has a 3.5 GPA or higher, is in good standing with the Honors College, and remains in the Moore School of Business.
The Elizabeth Albright Belser and Duncan Clinch Heyward Belser Scholarship
Established by the Belser family in memory of its namesakes.
Award Amount: Full Tuition each academic year.
Status: This scholarship has been awarded. The next scholarship application period is Spring 2012.
Eligibility: The scholarship is awarded each year to an incoming freshman student who is a resident of South Carolina, who can demonstrate need and who is majoring in the College of Engineering and Computing.
Renewal: The scholarship is automatically renewed annually (for a total of four years of undergraduate study) if the student remains in the aforementioned College or the natural sciences, and remains in good standing with the Honors College.
Application: The Honors College application will serve as the primary application for the Belser Scholarship; however, interested applicants must also submit their FAFSA by March 1st of the year they will matriculate. Students who do not submit a FAFSA will not be considered for this scholarship. Additionally, applicants may submit a supplemental letter that further details their financial situation and academic work. Letters should be addressed to the Dean of the College, and mailed to:Scholarships Committee, c/o Scholarships Coordinator, 120 Harper College, Columbia, SC 29208. Letters and FAFSAs must be submitted before March 1, 2012 to be considered in the next application period.
James Gadsden Holmes IV Scholarship
Established by James G. Holmes V, the father of an Honors College graduate, in memory of his father.
Award Amount: up to $1,500/academic year.
Status: This scholarship has been awarded, and will be available again in the Fall of 2015.
Eligibility: The James Gadsden Holmes IV Scholarship is awarded to a worthy incoming freshman.
Renewal: The scholarship is automatically renewed annually for up to three years if the student has a 3.5 GPA or higher, and is in good standing with the Honors College.
John S. Herin Scholarship
Established by Greg Smith, a graduate of the South Carolina Honors College class of 1988, in memory of an outstanding accounting professor and strong supporter of the Honors College.
Award Amount: $1,000/academic year.
Status: This scholarship has been awarded and will be available again for Fall of 2013.
Eligibility: The John S. Herin Scholarship is awarded to an out-of-state student who has completed one year of study. To qualify, interested students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and be in good standing with the Honors College.
Renewal: The scholarship is automatically renewed annually if the eligibilty requirements are still met.
Application: The Honors College will begin accepting applications for the Herin Scholarship on February 15, 2013. Applications received before this date will not be held for consideration. Applications must be received or postmarked by April 1, 2013. To apply a student must complete this cover page and write a formal letter addressed to the Dean of the Honors College requesting consideration for the Mould/Sederberg Scholarship. The letter should detail the academic work that the student has been pursuing and hopes to continue to pursue. It should also address how the scholarship will benefit the student. A formal hardcopy letter is required for consideration and should be mailed (or submitted in person) to: Scholarships Committee, c/o: Scholarships Coordinator, Harper College Room 120, Columbia, SC 29208. Emails will not be considered. If you are studying off campus during the semester of your application, please email the scholarships coordinator linked here to discuss your situation. The William A. Mould and Peter C. Sederberg Scholarship
Established in Honor of the two former Deans of the South Carolina Honors College.
Award Amount: $2,500/academic year.
Status: The Mould/Sederberg Scholarship has been awarded and will be next awarded for the Fall of 2012.
Eligibility: To qualify, interested rising junior and senior students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, be in good standing with the Honors College, and demonstrate financial need. Students beyond their fourth year may apply for this award. However, priority will be given to 3rd and 4th year students. Awards to 5th year students will only be made on a funds-available basis.
Renewal: This scholarship is automatically renewed for rising seniors who received the award as rising juniors, if the above requirements continue to be met. Students who hold the award during their 4th year, must reapply if they wish to be eligible to receive it in their 5th year.

The Patricia Ann Tangney Dumiak Scholarship
Established by Bill and Kathi Tangney, in memory of their daughter, an Honors College graduate.
Award Amount: up to $1,125/academic year.
Status: This scholarship has been awarded, and will be available again for Fall of 2015.
Eligibility: The Patricia Ann Tangney Dumiak Scholarship is awarded to a worthy incoming freshman whose major is in the Department of Political Science (International Studies or Political Science).
Renewal: The scholarship is automatically renewed annually for up to 3 years if the student has a 3.5 GPA or higher, is in good standing with the Honors College, and remains a student in the Department of Political Science.
South Carolina College Scholarship
Established by an Anonymous Donor to support the Honors College's out-of-state students and given the original name of the Honors College.
Award Amount: $1,400/academic year. The awarding of this scholarship entitles the student to reduced tuition. This is not the same as in-state tuition. Please see the Bursar's fee schedule for more information.
Status: This scholarship is awarded each year to entering and current out-of-state students who have received no other USC scholarship support.
Eligibility: To qualify, interested out-of-state students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, have no USC or departmental scholarships, and be in good standing with the Honors College. Students beyond their fourth year may not apply for this award. 5th and 6th year Pharmacy students are not eligible for this award.
Renewal: This scholarship is not automatically renewed and must be applied for annually.
Application: In order to receive this scholarship, a student must submit a scholarship agreement form (linked below in garnet) to the Scholarships Coordinator, no later than April 1st. (Please note: students who do not submit the Scholarship Agreement Form will not receive the scholarship: no exceptions will be made) Eligible transfer students admitted by the College in May are permitted to submit their application no later than June 1st. Applications received before admissions decisions are made will not be held for consideration.
The Connie and Bill Timmons Scholarship
Established by Tracy and Charles Hardaway, parents of two Honors College alumni, in memory of Tracy's parents.
Status: This scholarship has been awarded, and will be available again for Fall of 2013.
Eligibility: The Connie and Bill Timmons Scholarship is awarded to a worthy incoming freshman whose major is in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Renewal: The scholarship is automatically renewed annually for up to three years if the student has a 3.5 GPA or higher, is in good standing with the Honors College, and remains in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
First Year Honors Passport Award
Jim Clark, Honors College Academic Advisor, established this scholarship to encourage first year students to study abroad.
Award Amount: $135/student.
Status: This scholarship has been awarded. The next application period will be in the Spring 2012.
Eligibility: The First Year Honors Passport Award is awarded to several worthy first year students who wish to study abroad, but have not previously applied for a U.S. Passport. The award will cover the cost of the passport application fee and will be awarded during the spring semester.
Application: To apply students must write an essay describing a unique and creative trip idea for a possible future Honors College Maymester study abroad program. The Director of Off-Campus Education will select the winning essays with approval from the Dean of the Honors College. Final interviews and/or additional application materials may be required. Application details and deadline will be available shortly.
