September 2007. Teaching Present, Teaching Future.
As a teacher and dean of the Honors College, I lead a double life these days. Each Tuesday and Thursday evening I join seven students and a colleague in an Honors Proseminar to examine issues surrounding technology, society, and the environment. We talk about questions ranging from “What is nature?” to “How should a government and its citizens support technological innovation?”
By day, however, I am thinking about Spring 2008 classes. The prospects are exciting indeed. They include, “Behind the Footlights: A backstage view of theatre and solutions,” “Consumption and Its Contents,” “The Birth and Death of the Book” “Functional Nanomaterials,” and “Green Engagements,” which is a continuation of the “Green Explorations” Political Science course we are offering this fall. Bringing fresh ideas to the classroom brings out the best in our students, and energizes me for this busy and exciting time of the year. |
