Class of 2019
Public Health major
Ask me about……. Public Health, Pre-Health opportunities, and Research
I am a sophomore at the University of South Carolina. I am proud to be a student of both the Honors College and the Arnold School of Public Health. I am on the pre-med track and hope to attend medical school after finishing my undergraduate career at USC.
I love: All types of dance, chips and salsa, and Carolina football!
My dream job: My dream job is to be a professional dancer, but in the meantime, I’ll stick to dancing in just my apartment!
Things that make me laugh: Definitely my family, especially my brother. No matter how upset I might be, my brother will find a way to make me laugh.
Something I will always do: I will always wake up an hour before class and hit the snooze button at least 3 times!
In a movie about my life, the movie star who would play me would be: For my Bollywood fans: Aishwarya Rai, winner of the Miss World 1994 pageant. For my Hollywood fans: Jenna Dewan-Tatum because she’s an amazing dancer and actress!
My motto: Be grateful! This summer I traveled to Orissa, India with a student organization called GlobeMed. GlobeMed is a national organization with university chapters throughout the United States, and the purpose of GlobeMed is to improve the health of rural communities all over the world. I had the opportunity to travel and visit our partner organization and meet villagers from several villages. Meeting with them made me realize that I previously did not appreciate the opportunities and resources surrounding me. Visiting people who struggle to find clean water changed my perspective and I will always remember to be thankful.
My favorite thing about the Honors College: The opportunity to interact with my fellow peers who are an outstanding group of people. The diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and interests has taught me to appreciate the differences and similarities between people. As a pre-med student, I have learned an invaluable lesson for interacting with patients of different cultures, ethnicities, etc.
My reason for choosing the SCHC: I chose the Honors College because of the amazing opportunities the college offers. I am able to pursue my interests as a Public Health major while experiencing the amazing curriculum of the Honors College. I have been provided support from many of the Honors faculty and staff, and my peers are always inspiring me to reach outside my comfort zone and to grow as a person.
