Meet the Arctic Scientist

Families "Meet the Arctic Scientist" with dr. doug

"Meet the Arctic Scientist" was one part of the Go Polar! program. Children met and interacted with real professional scientists — primarily Williams (a.k.a. dr. doug), with help from Drs. Eugene Karabanov and Ron Benner on the USC faculty. Held in EdVenture's auditorium, the Meet-the-Arctic-Scientist element reached children and families and advertised and explained the Go Polar! program.

"Meet the Arctic Scientist" was presented in two parts. Part 1 was a 30-minute multimedia presentation that included authentic results from Arctic research.  Blending video and photographs, the presentation introduced what is meant by “global change” and the Arctic's role in it. Part 2 consisted of question-and-answer sessions coupled with Arctic discovery boxes.

"Arctic Weekends" offered small groups the opportunity to perform experiments relating to water. The experiments focused on the physical properties of fresh water, ice, and seawater. Participants measured salinity, density, and temperature.

Art Alley

The Art Alley, an exhibit area for children's artwork, is located on the second floor of the EdVenture Children's Museum.

During the Go Polar! program, the Art Alley was filled with Arctic-themed children's drawings. They featured arctic animals, auroras, and the people of the region.
