Washington Semester

Honors students with Barack Obama

Administered by the South Carolina Honors College at the University of South Carolina, the South Carolina Washington Semester Program gives students across the state of South Carolina the opportunity to spend a semester working and taking classes in Washington DC, gaining valuable experience while earning academic credit toward their degrees. In DC, Washington Semester Program Fellows get firsthand experience with the political process, obtaining skills that will help prepare them for careers in virtually any sphere. In the past, Washington Semester Program Fellows have attended many important events, such as the inauguration ceremonies, White House arrival ceremonies for visiting head of states, joint sessions of Congress, and arguments before the Supreme Court.

Internships

In order to satisfy the Beyond the Classroom requirement, an internship must receive academic credit.
Click here to download the SCHC Internship Contract.
Click here for more information about getting academic credit for an internship.

Internships are an important part of the Honors Beyond the Classroom program. We encourage our students to understand their education as much more than their classes. What they do beyond the campus of the university is as important as what they do in the classroom. Internships also help build foundational skills important for your career endeavors.  An internship can open doors, help develop career plans, and make great contacts for the future.  Internships sometimes evolve into full-time employment opportunities.
