Student Research

Students are encouraged to pursue research in all disciplines from arts to science and business to math.  Funding can be used for stipend ($10/hr) or to purchase materials and supplies.  Please note that Undergraduate Research funds cannot be used to support Senior thesis research while a student is enrolled in SCHC 499 or other Senior Thesis credit.  For financial support of the Senior Thesis, please apply for a Senior Thesis grant.  Work supported by SCHC Undergraduate Research funds may be later developed into a Senior Thesis.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities

The following two programs offer funding opportunities for undergraduate research:

  • Exploration Scholars Program for students in Arts, Music, Humanities,Journalism, or any other field dealing with more qualitative or exploratory scholarship methods. Initiating Research--SCHC 392B--Schedule code 613881

GAMB 149 W 3:35-4:20, one credit hour

Every field of study has its own research problems and methods.  Research problems can be aesthetic, social, political, scientific, or technical.  The goal of this class is for students to pursue their own questions and through research, discover the answers, and perhaps new questions, along the way.  Intended for students with no prior research experience, the format of the class is classroom discussion, guest speakers, and hands-on learning as we explore the University's research resources.  By the end of this course, students have the tools necessary to write a research proposal for funding under the Honors College Undergraduate Research Program, Office of Undergraduate Research, and the Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs.
