Spring 2008 Washington Semester Program FellowsApplication Requirements

Application deadline for Fall 2012 is Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012.

Admission to the Washington Semester Program is very competitive. Students are encouraged to apply as soon as they decided they interested in the program. Applications requirements are outlined below.

Online Application

The first step in applying to the Washington Semester Program is to submit the online application. Once the application is received, we will respond to you to let you know that we are starting a file for your application. If you don't receive a response from us within 48 hours, please email the Director of Internship Programs, beth.h@sc.edu.

Supplemental Materials

In addition to the online application, applicants are responsible for ensuring that the following materials reach the Washington Semester Program by the application deadline:

  1. A statement (approx. 500 words) that discusses how the Washington Semester Program relates to your personal, academic and professional goals.

  2. A current resume.

  3. A transcript showing all college-level work attempted, including the current semester. It need not be an official transcript. It must show the classes you have  taken, the grades earned and the cumulative GPA.

  4. Two letters of recommendation addressed to "The Selection Committee" submitted in sealed envelopes. At least one of the letters must be from a college faculty member familiar with your academic work. Past or current employers or others who can address your work ethic and ability to work well with others are also encouraged. Choose carefully the person who recommends you. Letters from family members, roommates or others similarly close to you are not accepted. Please give people adequate notice and a deadline when requesting a letter of recommendation. If you have questions, please contact the Director of Internship Programs.

  5. A statement from your honors director stating that you are an active member in good standing of your school's honors program. If you are not in your school's honors program, check with your school's honors director to see if you qualify. In those programs that allow non-honors college students to apply, your GPA must be 3.5 or higher, you must complete the standard application process, and you must submit written permission from the honors director.  USC-Columbia students do not have to request this statement, since the Honors College will automatically check for good standing status when the application is submitted.

Submission

All application materials should be submitted by the deadline to:
