The Honors College strives to provide the highest level of support possible for our students. As such, in addition to University Housing professional staff that live in the building, the Honors College is happy to have a staff member serve as live-in staff for the Honors Residence. This SCHC staff member resides in an apartment within the residence hall and is available to provide support to students as needed.
Honors College students who wish to live on-campus for Fall 2013/Spring 2014 must complete an interest form online at www.housing.sc.edu/Signup1314/if_hc.php by December 1, 2012 at 5 p.m. Honors College housing is available in DeSaussure, Harper/Elliott, Honors Residence, Pinckney/Legare and Rutledge for the 2013/2014 academic year.
The Honors College will run a lottery for all Honors students who submit an interest form by the deadline. The results of the lottery will decide the priority for an assignment and appointment times in which each applicant for Honors College housing can select their room assignment. Students will be notified via their University email by February 1, 2013 if they will receive a housing assignment. Students who are awarded an assignment must then complete a housing contract online on VIP February 1 through February 15 and submit the $150 advance fee.
Online room selection appointment times will only be sent to those students who submit an official contract.
Living and learning communities are an integral part of the university experience, providing students with the opportunity to live in an environment that promotes diversity, embraces excellence, encourages insightful faculty-student interaction, and works to develop a strong sense of community. These academically-themed communities also emphasize active service-learning experiences, study-abroad opportunities, and undergraduate research.
Previous community events include pre-advising, a book exchange, and a holiday fiesta.
Housing 537 freshmen and upper-class students, Honors Residence is a six-story, co-ed building with three wings divided into “pods” of single- or double-occupancy bedrooms surrounding a common living area for 12 students. Bathrooms are shared by two to four students in each pod. Classrooms and faculty offices are incorporated into the main building to support students in their academic pursuits.
This new residence hall is bound to enrich the college experience for all its residents. Many opportunities and activities sponsored by the residence hall government are available to students so that they can get involved easily. A dining facility is located in the building for quick and easy access. With the new residence located at the intersection of Blossom and Main Streets, the Russell House University Union is only a few blocks away, offering more convenient services for students.
"I like living in the Honors community a lot. You can see a difference in the work ethic; you can study when you need to, but at the same time, you can have fun." --Alex Wang
