The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce the fourth annual Leadership Week at the University of South Carolina will be held from February 10 - 15, 2020.
We invite you to participate in the week-long celebration highlighting leadership for all students, faculty and staff. Colleges, the Living/Learning Communities (Capstone, Maxcy, Green Quad, Galen Health Fellows, Rhodos Fellows, Entrepreneurship & Innovation and Preston), Leadership and Service Center, University Advising, On Your Time, Continuing Education and Conferences and the Office of Undergraduate Research, Center for Teaching Excellence and Center for Integrative & Experiential Learning have all joined together to promote leadership for the student body. Activities include seminars, panel discussions, and presentations.

The BB&T Emerging Leaders Certification, a 6 hr. seminar, is open to undergraduate business students. Originally for executives, the program is offered to students who have the potential to be on the fast track to success and leadership. After identifying signature strengths, leadership preferences, and their leadership purpose, students will leave with practical tools and strategies that improve their leadership capabilities and are of immediate use. Upon completion, students will receive both a certificate and the ability to include this certification on their resume and LinkedIn profile. HRSM Students In Class Explore Personal Patterns Which Facilitate Leadership
Monday and Tuesday Evenings
Students enrolled in HRSM 301 learn professionalism skills (including leadership) desired by HRSM industry employers. These two classes will be designed so students are exposed to a comprehensive personality assessment which provides insights into the different motivations, actions, and communication approaches needed for leadership success. The core of the system identifies intrinsic values, motivations, self-esteem, sources of dignity and worthiness, causes of stress, communication styles, listening styles, non-verbal responses, language patterns, social skills, learning styles, environmental motivators, cultural appeal, negative mental states, relationship orientation and ethical behaviors. Approximately 600 HRSM students will be taken through the training.

Join us for a lunchtime Leadership Week talk with USC nursing professor Dr. Patrick Hickey, who became the first nurse to climb the Seven Summits of the world when he reached the peak of Mt. Everest in May 2007.
Hickey will share his steps to pursuing challenges and facing extreme adversity, as detailed in his book 7 Summits: A Nurse’s Quest to Conquer Mountaineering and Life. He says with hard work, persistence, self-confidence and the support of family and friends, anyone can reach the top of the world.

Join us for a lunchtime Leadership Week talk with USC nursing professor Dr. Patrick Hickey, who became the first nurse to climb the Seven Summits of the world when he reached
the peak of Mt. Everest in May 2007.
Hickey will share his steps to pursuing challenges and facing extreme adversity, as
detailed in his book 7 Summits: A Nurse’s Quest to Conquer Mountaineering and Life. He says with hard work, persistence, self-confidence and the support of family and
friends, anyone can reach the top of the world.

Business - BB&T’s Emerging Leadership Certification

The BB&T Emerging Leaders Certification, a 6 hr. seminar, is open to undergraduate
business students. Originally for executives, the program is offered to students
who have the potential to be on the fast track to success and leadership. After identifying
signature strengths, leadership preferences, and their leadership purpose, students
will leave with practical tools and strategies that improve their leadership capabilities
and are of immediate use. Upon completion, students will receive both a certificate
and the ability to include this certification on their resume and LinkedIn profile.

Leadership at Capstone
All week long, stop by the Capstone lobby to answer leadership questions. On Friday,
January 14th, responses will be collected and displayed in 13 Gibbes Ct. during the
Hot Cookie Friday. Students will have the opportunity to read responses, see how others
have gotten involved, and get some ideas for how they will be involved in leadership
moving forward.

We will be taking donations of trash bags, hand sanitizer, new microfiber cleaning
cloths, exam gloves, and fleece blankets. At this time they are unable to accept tennis
balls, chew toys, or pet food that is not delivered directly to the facility from
Amazon or another store. Faculty, staff, and students who would like to contribute
can bring items or cash donations to Byrnes 209. Pets Inc also takes donations on
their website, and they also have an Amazon wishlist.

College of Engineering and Computing student organizations host over 40 interactive
exhibits to enthusiastically reach out to children and teenagers to educate them about
engineering and computer science fields. Open House provides an opportunity for a
large number of CEC students to engage and demonstrate leadership, resulting in a
great opportunity for members of the University and Columbia communities to experience
how interesting and exciting engineering and computer science can be.
