A Thanksgiving Message from President Pastides
November 24, 2021
Dear University Community,
I hope you are already enjoying a welcome time of relaxation with family and friends, or soon will be – if so, I’m happy for you! Patricia and I, too, are looking forward to some family time and rest in the days ahead – and, of course, a great football game on Saturday!
Thanksgiving is always a favorite time of year for so many Americans. Here at Carolina, our historic campus takes on a special feel with fall colors and cool temperatures. We kicked off our annual rivalry week with Tiger Burn on Monday, and we’ll close it out with our football game against Clemson. And in between, we get to enjoy some holiday time. It’s a good time to reflect on all we’ve accomplished these last few months, to prepare for the last weeks before winter break, and to begin thinking about the spring semester ahead and to new university leadership.
It’s a time of transition, and with that in mind, I want to share a special video that reflects on the state of our university. Unlike years past, when we’ve presented a formal State of the University address on campus, we’ve taken an opportunity this year to bring other voices forward in a video format, to share a spectrum of views on where we’ve been as a university community and where we might go from here. I hope you’ll spend a few minutes of your holiday weekend watching and listening, to hear some new perspectives and to see why we are optimistic about what the future holds for the University of South Carolina.
Wherever you may be during this holiday weekend, I hope you find time to reflect on what you are thankful for and to enjoy the people in your lives. Please remember that safe travel is smart travel – come back to campus healthy, strong and rested. Patricia and I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving.
Forever to thee!
