Biography:
I study popular culture as literature and the way that the media we consume as a society reflects cultural values, especially when it comes to the representation of marginalized groups. Past research has worked with a variety of sub-interests, ranging from romance fiction to fanfiction, Disney Princess movies to Shakespearean adaptation. I am especially excited about the opportunity to teach special topics courses on popular culture topics, such as a previous course in Fanfiction as Literature and an upcoming course in Popular Mythology, which allow students to view literature in a new and, hopefully, exciting way. My first article, "The Droids You're Looking For: On Sentience and Servitude in Star Wars," which focuses on labor rights and droids as an oppressed subclass in the Star Wars franchise, was published in April 2021 in the Popular Culture Studies Journal.
