Beyond the Classroom

Our majors are encouraged to work with faculty outside as well as inside the classroom, to participate in departmental and university organizations and activities, and to seek study abroad, internship, and leadership opportunities.

Study Abroad

Have you considered spending a semester or part of a summer abroad? USC is committed to providing these enriching experiences to its undergraduates, and the Department of Political Science is offering more of these opportunities as well. To learn more, visit the Study Abroad Office

Maymesters

The Department of Political Science occasionally offers a department-sponsored study abroad trip during the month of May. These trips offer academic credit, as well as a fantastic opportunity to experience classroom learning in the real world.

Are you interested in law and how societies govern themselves? Would you like to spend two weeks in London and Edinburgh? If the answer to either question is ‘yes’, then consider taking The Foundations of Law and Government (POLI 391) next Maymester. You would spend May 8-11, 2023 in London, England and Edinburgh, Scotland. To find out more details about the class and trip, visit www.kirkrandazzo.com and look under the Study Abroad section. Any questions, please contact Dr. Kirk Randazzo, Chair of Political Science (randazzo@mailbox.sc.edu).

Research

The department's faculty is committed to the pursuit of knowledge in their chosen fields of inquiry, and often engage graduate students in the production of top level research.

Internships

Internships provide undergraduate and graduate students a chance to gain real-world experience and identify possible career paths that may interest them. Undergraduate majors have the option to pursue an internship, whereas MPA students are often required to gain this experience.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
