Apply for Undergraduate Admission

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions manages online applications to the university and provides the most comprehensive information on the application process. The admissions office also provides the latest information on application deadlines and university scholarships for S.C. residents and nonresidents. So whether you are applying as a freshman, are looking to transfer to South Carolina or are planning to come to Columbia from another UofSC campus, you can check the requirements based on your current status and apply now.

Apply to Graduate School

The Graduate School coordinates online applications to our master's and doctoral programs. There may be supporting materials that are required along with your online application for graduate admission, so be sure to review the degree requirements before you apply.

Test Scores

In the past years, the accepted students have scored at least:

  • 152 on the quantitative section of the GRE
  • 151 on the verbal section of the GRE
  • 3.5 on the analytical writing portion of the GRE
  • 100 on TOEFL for students from countries where English is not an official language. This requirement is waived if you have a degree from an accredited university in the US (Covid-19 Accomodations for Admissions: The use of Duolingo scores as a COVID-19 accommodation is extended through the 2023-2024 application/admission cycle.  Duolingo scores of 115 and higher may be submitted as alternate evidence of language proficiency.  Summer 2024 is the final application term that Duolingo scores have been approved for use at this time).

In the past, the Department of Statistics received about 60 graduate applications each year; 80% were international students and 20% domestic. One-third of applicants were seeking admission to the M.S. program and two-thirds to the Ph.D. About 15-20 were accepted into the program, and of these about 6-8 began with a teaching assistantship.

Additional Materials

You'll be required to submit a resume/vita and a personal statement with your application. You should send these directly to the Graduate School.

You'll automatically be considered for an assistantship when you apply for one of our graduate programs. However, we're only able to offer between 5 and 10 new teaching assistantships each fall.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
