Background

Yujin Heo is a PhD candidate in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications. As a researcher, Heo mainly focuses on civic engagement, PR campaigns, and Corporate Social Responsibility. While working as a big data analyst in the industry, she learned about opportunities to use computational methods for market research in the digital age. 

Heo authored seven articles published in peer-reviewed journals, such as Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, International Journal of Public Opinion Research, and Journal of Health Communication. Heo has received three top-paper awards at conferences, all as a lead author. 

Research Interests

civic engagement for social change, ethics in Public Relations, Computational Social Science Research 

Teaching

Heo has taught courses in research methods and digital media. Her primary goal as an instructor is to help students prepare for successful careers by providing real-world examples and practical skills such as digital media analytics. She received a 2020 Promising Student Professor Award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Courses taught at the University of South Carolina: JOUR332 Mass Communications Research, JOUR 400 Digital Media and Big Data Analysis.
