Adia Caldwell chose information science because she liked the small classrooms and career versatility the major offered.
Since leaving her hometown of Marietta, Georgia, the senior has made a mark, both
in the School of Information Science and university-wide.
A member of the Information Science Student Association, Caldwell spearheaded the
organization’s effort to welcome new members and educate them on every aspect of the
information science field.
“I hope that we can build a larger community so that people can learn how impactful
this major can be,” she says.
She’s made the Dean's Honor List consecutively for the past few semesters and has
even been featured in HuffPost and The Daily Gamecock.
Caldwell’s success is driven in large part by her hard work and determination, but
she says the iSchool’s faculty have also played a critical role shaping her experience
at the university.
“What I love most about this major are the professors that make my learning experience
so fulfilling,” she says. “Every professor here puts the student first and does their
best to ensure that we understand the class material. They are concerned with student
success more than any other aspect of teaching. I've had the pleasure of seeing this
firsthand from Vanessa Kitzie, Darin Freeburg and Elise Lewis.”
What’s next after undergrad? Caldwell’s ten-year plan includes obtaining her master’s
degree and landing a data analytics consulting job.
“What's great about information science is that I can be very flexible with my career
path and can pursue many other options,” she says.
