Students will experience lectures by leading sport and entertainment management authorities, tours of sport and entertainment venues, and attendance at international sport competitions. The course is designed to introduce sport and entertainment management practices in Spain, while also exposing students to the history and culture of Spain and its impact on the business of sport.

Students in this course will visit iconic sites and learn from luxury retail and hospitality experts in the heart of Florence, Italy. Among the many highlights of the trip are a daytrip to Tuscany with a private tour and tasting at the Castillo Banfi Winery, a guided tour of the Lamborghini factory and museum, and a visit to Parma with lunch and tour of the Parmesan cheese processing plant. Students will also enjoy walking tours and three lectures from Italian luxury experts in hospitality, fashion, and wine.

USFQ is the only university in the world with a campus on the Galápagos islands. In addition to taking courses, students participate in educational and cultural excursions, which include trips to several other islands in the Galápagos.

This Maymester experience takes students on an impactful and immersive journey to the tiny island of Aruba, a Dutch colony located in the southern Caribbean. “One Happy Island” is the national slogan of this 75 square mile island, and tourism and leisure is the country’s primary industry. As such, the island is the perfect backdrop to study hospitality and tourism. Students will study hospitality and tourism in the context of strategic communication—how companies in the tourism industry generate awareness and exposure so that travelers engage with their business and build loyalty with existing and new customers. Additionally, students will spend time getting to know the island of Aruba, including the culture, the food, and, the people.

HRTM 590 – Alaska Ecotourism

This course focuses on ecotourism that is primarily nature-based and entails a learning/appreciative component while being immersed within an Ecotour of Alaska from Denali to Prince Williams Sound. Students will attend daily lectures on a variety of ecotourism topics and explore the rich Alaskan environment, culture, wilderness and local urban attractions as an Ecotourist. Activities include visits to the Alaska Native Heritage Center, the Anchorage Museum, the Iditarod Trail Dog Museum, Chugach State Park, Denali State Park, a Wilderness Jet Boat Adventure on the Susitna River, a visit to the Portage Glacier, and a kayak adventure in the Prince Williams Sound.

SPTE 590 – Tournament Operations

Students will learn about golf and tennis tournament operations along the South Carolina and Florida coasts. Stops during the trip include the Credit One Charleston Open tennis tournament as well as a visit to TPC Sawgrass, home of the PLAYERS Championship. Student will have an opportunity to experience Kiawah Island and visit the Ocean Course, a past host for the PGA Championship. A networking event with Charleston alumni and cultural excursions in both cities are included in the trip as well.
