Prior to joining the USC School of Medicine faculty in 2005, Dr. Kerry Lachance worked for more than 25 years in the field of community mental health counseling, where her roles included direct clinical service, program development, administration and supervision. She has extensive experience in the dissemination of evidence-based mental health programs and has consulted in several U.S. states as well as in the United Kingdom. 

Dr. Lachance is a licensed professional counselor and maintains dual memberships in the American Counseling Association and the American Public Health Association. She also holds an appointment as a clinical instructor at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. 

After receiving a bachelor of arts in psychology from Rhode Island College, Providence, Rhode Island, Dr. Lachance earned a master's degree in counselor education from the University of Central Florida, Orlando, Florida, and a Ph.D. in Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior from the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina. 

Dr. Lachance has been the Principal Investigator of federal grants that focused on improving the lives of youthful offenders and their families and developing individualized supported employment services for persons with serious mental illnesses. Currently she is the co-Principal Investigator of a SAMHSA-funded youth violence prevention grant, and serves as a technical consultant to several community agencies. Her current research and publication interests include the physical and emotional health implications of stigma and discrimination, the impact of minority stress on wellness, and qualitative research methodology.
