A Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At UofSC College of Nursing, we value each student, staff, and faculty. We want everyone to feel welcome and included. We aim to cultivate and support the values of the College of Nursing: diversity, inclusivity, commitment, caring, integrity, respect, and professionalism. We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are necessary to achieve academic and institutional excellence. All members of the CON community not only matter, but their unique perspectives are the core of our strength and success.

A Message From The Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity

Thank you for taking the opportunity to visit the CON DEI website. My role is to assist the CON in achieving inclusive excellence while helping to create a vision that reflects a diverse, safe learning environment in all aspects of our mission- teaching, research, practice, and service. Additionally, I help lead initiatives aimed at enhancing the recruitment, retention, and success of underrepresented groups in the field of nursing.  We all rise and fall together, and there is strength in diversity. Feel free to reach out to my office if we can be of service to you.

-  Coretta Jenerette, PhD, RN, AOCN, CNE, FAAN

Strengthening Achievement and Nursing Diversity with URM/DB Program for South Carolina (StAND-UP: SC) is a pilot academy that aims to enhance the diversity of the registered nurses (RN) workforce in South Carolina (SC). We want to increase the proportion of underrepresented, minoritized, and disadvantaged background (URM/DB) students graduating from nursing schools. StAND-UP: SC will offer approximately 200 pre-licensed, senior RN nursing students a one-year virtual diversity, equity, and inclusion academy. With presentations and resources, students will better understand social determinants of health, health equity, and social justice advocacy. Moreover, StAND-UP: SC will provide life-long, tailored professional development resources. At the end of the academy, students and other stakeholders in SC will be invited to a conference to discuss lessons learned and the next steps.

Participants will attend monthly virtual trainings from August 2022 through May 2023. Seating is limited. Application deadline August 26 2022.
