Three Honors College Students Named Truman Scholar Finalists

Andrea Eggleston, Andrew Kovtun, and Davontae Singleton have each been named a Truman Scholar Finalist. Highly competitive and prestigious, the $30,000 Truman Scholarship is awarded to approximately 60 juniors nationally for superior academic ability, a strong record of service and leadership, and plans for careers in public service.

Honors College Launches Artist in Residence Program with 10 Student Artists

“We feel like pioneers because our artist in residence program isn’t limited to students majoring in art disciplines,” said Sarah Koslov, student curator and an SCHC philosophy major. “When you’re a business major, it’s hard to find the time or community to work on your photography. Our residency program gives them a chance to channel their creativity.”

Winners of First SC High School Writing Contest Announced

Rowan Miller, a senior at Aiken High School, and Hallie Chametzky, a junior at Dreher High School in Columbia, are the first-place winners of the 2013 South Carolina High School Writing Contest. Sponsored by the South Carolina Honors College and the University of South Carolina Press, the contest was open to all high school juniors and seniors willing to tackle one question: “How should we improve the state of South Carolina?” Contest judge Pat Conroy, New York Times bestselling author, scored the essays, which included results from an impromptu writing contest finalists took on the USC campus in October.
