Elizabeth Moore has been named a Truman Scholar Finalist. Highly competitive and prestigious, the $30,000 Truman Scholarship is awarded to approximately 60 juniors nationally for superior academic ability, a strong record of service and leadership, and plans for careers in public service.

Student Profile: Erin Steiner, world traveler, serious researcher

The Honors College "...has served as the hub of an experience that has carried [Erin Steiner] across the world. She has volunteered at an elephant sanctuary in Thailand, attended classes in Ghana and volunteered with at-risk youth in India, just to name a few stops on the tour. And it’s not just travel for travel’s sake. Over the past three years, she has used several grants to fund projects that research the global pervasiveness of a perception bias.

Finalists announced for SC high school writing contest

The 29 finalists will convene at the University of South Carolina in Columbia March 14, where they’ll participate in a second round of writing competition. They’ll also meet and hear remarks from Wentworth and Story River Books author Maggie Schein. “Round Two of the competition gives emerging writers a chance to learn from more established ones,” said Jonathan Haupt, director of USC Press. “We’re interested in helping writers of all kinds make connections, as well as publishing those with significant messages.”
